Obituary for Geneva Collette Worden

Geneva “Gen” Collette Worden, 94, became a beautiful angel on Oct. 6, 2018. She was born on March 7, 1924, in Missoula, and was the daughter of Ona Marcure and Orville Worden, and sister to Bernice Kellogg. Gen graduated from Missoula County High School then followed Bernice to San Francisco, where she worked as a dental assistant until she retired. Gen hosted the Kellogg clan nearly every summer at her home in the Bay Area.

Gen was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Church and when she could no longer attend mass, eucharistic minister Karen Erbe delivered holy communion to her at home. Always helping others, Gen was a loving surrogate mother to Bernice’s children. After Bernice’s husband, French Kellogg, became ill, Gen moved back to Missoula so she could help care for him. She lived with Bernice and French until they both passed, then stayed on at the Kellogg house where she lived with her niece Colleen Beers. In July she suffered a serious back injury and was moved to the The Village.

She enjoyed driving and listening to books on tape and she and Bernice enjoyed long drives up the Bitterroot, to Flathead and Seeley Lakes, and all places in between. An avid golfer, Gen frequented Monterey and Carmel — even Pebble Beach! Other favorites were the U of M and Polson Bay golf courses.

Gen bought the Kellogg family their first dog, named Cuddles, and for Christmas she gave them season passes to Marshall Ski Area.

Gen is survived by her nieces Colleen Beers, Mary Gen Lawrenson, and Julie Madler and her nephew Mike Kellogg as well as their children and grandchildren. She was very close to her relatives Bob and LaWana Whaley, and Mary Ann Antrim as well as Joe and Anna Kellogg. She was cherished and will be sorely missed.

Special thanks to The Village Health and Rehabilitation Center for all the hard work and compassionate care. Gen loved the nurses and staff! Also, a big thanks to Ethel Mcready for taking such great care of Gen over the years!

As per Gen’s wishes, no formal memorial is planned at this time; however a dedication for Gen will be held on Nov. 11 at the 10 a.m. mass at St. Francis Xavier Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Village Resident Council Fund, c/o The Village Health and Rehabilitation Center, 2651 South Ave. W., Missoula 59804.
